Life… as I see it (05/16/2018)

Today’s kind of a big deal. Not only is it Mother’s Day, but it mine and Tom’s first wedding anniversary. Yep, we made it through the first year.

They say the first is the hardest.

Honestly, we’ve had a pretty good year. It’s always hard to adjust to change, and when your’re old and have been on your own for a while, it might be just a bit tougher. We’ve had our clashes, and our triumphs. All in all, it’s been a great year.

This week we spent several days at the campground. The weather was perfect. I even learned to drive the boat. The scary part was bringing it back in and docking it for the first time, but I managed to get it done. It will take some practice, but I think I’ve got this.

I want to mention some folks that have helped us a lot. As we close down and clear out our parents’ home for sale, there have been several people who have stepped up to advise and to help.

Our neighbor Jacquie, haul away guys Jake and his helper Will, Miguel, Roseanne from the library and of course our realtors Tommy and Ashley (they go above and beyond to help).
When you live in a small community, it seems folks just step up to help. We won’t forget their kindnesses.

Now, let’s get back to Mother’s Day. Last year we were in North Dakota and I spent for the first time in a long time Mother’s Day with my kids and grandkids. It meant a lot to me to be with them all not only for that but for our beautiful wedding in Medora.

Today to celebrate both, we are heading to San Francisco for a couple of days. We are looking forward to being tourists, eating fish and maybe indulging in an adult beverage or two.

Mainly, it is time together to appreciate the life we are building. I love going to the city, and I enjoy the sites, sounds and even the smells of the wharf. We are staying at a hotel across the street from Pier 39 so that will be convenient too.

I’m about ready for our garage sale. I worked 4.5 hours on it yesterday, so that I won’t hit work overload when I get back from the city. It’s pretty much good to go for next weekend.

It is amazing what we hang on to and collect over the years. Things we once thought were cool and must-have items are now things making their ways to sale tables.

I’ve said before that I have one child who does periodic clear out and downsize. Again, I have to say I think she’s right.

Today is a day of celebration.

Life is good today. ■
