Two arrested for meth possession, sale

On May 23, at around 4:52 PM, the Colusa County Task force, with the assistance of a Colusa County Sheriff’s Deputy and two California Highway Patrol Officers, conducted a vehicle stop on an older model gold Toyota Corolla on Hwy 45 and Leven St. in Grimes Ca.

Zachary Pomfret, 35, of Colusa was driving the vehicle, accompanied by Beatriz Cerpa, 29, also of Colusa. Pomfret – who had just been released from prison on April 18 and was fitted with a GPS ankle monitor as a condition of his Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) – was unlicensed, Task Force Sgt. Michael Bradwell said in a press release.

Task Force Agents stopped Pomfret for a violation of the California Vehicle Code and ultimately searched the vehicle, where they located one half-pound of methamphetamine, $174 in U.S. currency, and several cellular phones. Pomfret and Cerpa were arrested and booked into the Colusa County Jail on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine, and conspiracy.

“It was enough to supply the Colusa area for a good period of time – maybe a week or two,” Bradwell said of the amount of methamphetamine seized. “It’s the largest we’ve had in recent months – 2,390 doses, if you consider a done one-tenth of a gram… It was about a year ago that we seized two pounds (in Colusa), but this is definitely the most we’ve actually seized from a local in some time.”

The stop and arrest were precipitated by a collaborative investigation between the Colusa County Probation Department and the Colusa County Task Force, the press release said. Using the GPS ankle monitor, law enforcement identified irregular behaviors in Pomfret’s travels, noting that he would leave the county weekly traveling main highways and interestats, then return to Colusa traveling on county roads.

“It appeared to law enforcement officers that Pomfret believed there would less of a law enforcement presence on the county roads,” the press release said.
