October is breast cancer awareness month, and Riverside Lanes will host “Bowling for Boobs” as part of a national campaign to increase awareness of the disease and to raise money for patient needs.
The annual event, originally scheduled for this Saturday, will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Oct. 27 at the bowling alley in Colusa.
Teams of four are encouraged to sign up and pay the $25-per-person registration fee in advance to assure their spots at the annual event, in which dressing up in pink is highly encouraged.
Individuals can also sign up to be placed on a team, said sponsor Lynda Silk.
“It’s a great way to meet new people and new bowlers,” Silk said.
Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point, according to the U.S. Department of Health.
The annual Bowling for Boobs is a fundraiser for the Colusa County Breast Cancer Fund, a non-profit under the Community Foundation of Colusa County.
Cindy Campbell, CCBCF committee member, said it’s the mission of the fund to provide financial assistance to patients in Colusa County who are being treated for breast cancer.
“We can help with gas cards for people who have to travel to their doctor, of even help with a utility bill if they need it,” Campbell said. “All they have to do is ask.”
To register for Bowling for Boobs, stop by Riverside Lanes at 420 Main Street, in Colusa, or call (530) 458-8866.
In addition to bowling, the event will feature raffle items and exciting prizes donated by supporters.
