County Clerk-Recorder reminds voters to return vote-by-mail ballots

Colusa County Clerk-Recorder Rose Gallo-Vasquez is encouraging the county’s vote-by-mail voters to return their ballots ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

The Clerk-Recorder’s office began sending out election packets to vote-by-mail voters (née Absentee Ballots) on Oct. 8. Voters can send back their vote-by-mail ballot as soon as they have received it and filled it out. After they have placed the ballot in the return envelope provided in the packet and signed that envelope, voters can either turn their ballot in by mail, in person at the Clerk-Recorder’s office during normal business hours, or in person to any polling place in the county from 7 AM to 8 PM on Election Day.

In order for the ballot to be counted, the Clerk-Recorder’s office must receive it by 8 PM on Election Day, but the sooner they are returned, the better.

The earlier those ballots come back, the more efficient Gallo-Vasquez’s office can be in tallying votes on election night, she said.

After voters return their ballot, they can check its status by visiting bit.ly/BallotStatus and entering the information requested.

As of Monday, 10 percent of the 5,639 vote-by-mail ballots issued in Colusa County had been returned to the Colusa County Clerk-Recorder’s office.

During the last General Election in 2016, 76 percent of the 5,531 vote-by-mail ballots were returned. In this year’s Primary Election in June, just 48 percent of the 5,288 vote-by-mail ballots issued were returned. ■
