Williams prepares for Grocery Outlet

The Williams City Council last week awarded a contract to All American Construction, Inc. to repair Vada Court ahead of the Grocery Outlet project, which is slated to get underway in the spring.

The city received four bids on the project, ranging from All American’s bid of $245,426 to $344,778.

City Engineer Trin Campos said he originally estimated the construction costs of the roadwork, to be around $271,000, and was pleased the bid came in lower.

With construction management ($25,000) and a 5 percent contingency ($13,574), the total cost of the project will likely be about $284,000, Campos said.

“Of course we will try to come in under if we can find any way to save on construction once we get underway,” he said.

The Williams City Council voted 4-0 to approve the contract at their Jan. 16 meeting, and will pay for the project out of the General Fund.

The 18,000 sq. foot Grocery Outlet, which contributed about $42,000 in traffic impact fees for the repairs, is to be built on a 1.83-acre parcel on Vada Court, behind Taco Bell, upon final approval from the City Council.

Vada Court, a cul de sac, will provide only one entrance and outlet for Grocery Outlet, once the store is open.

City officials said they expect the road to Grocery Outlet to be expanded to the south, possibly all the way to Highway 20’s new Love’s Truck Stop, which in near completion, only if future development of the business park necessitates the expansion.

“There is no current plan to put the road in,” said City Administrator Frank Kennedy.

All American, a Yuba City-based company, plans to begin work on Vada Court as soon as weather permits. ■
