Colusa undefeated, Maxwell winless, Pierce claims win at Randy Watt Invitational

Although the rain cleared for just one day of game play at the Randy Watt Invitational, in Colusa, the inclement weather canceled all Saturday games.

Colusa opened the tournament with a shut out win over Oroville, 12-0 final score. The Lady Hawks followed the win against Oroville with another win, by the 10 run rule and a 12-2 final score. Final game play for the LadyHawks was a match-up against the Maxwell Panthers, garnering them a third victory of the day with a 11-1 final score.

Pierce Lady Bears also engaged in a three-game play during the invitational, capturing a single victory and suffering two losses. Opening against Ripon, Pierce struggled in the batting box, sending just four hits in six innings to the Ripon offense. The Lady Bears fell short, 16-1. Pierce’s bats warmed up in their second match-up against the Willows Honkers, with a fifth inning scoring spree. Emily Ehrke delivered two doubles, and a double each from Noemi Martinez and Alexis Dorantes aided in Pierce’s nine runs. But game time ran short for the Lady Bears and Willows claimed the 16-12 win.

On the field for a third match-up against the Maxwell Panthers, a scoreless two innings for the Lady Bears would break with a double each by Ehrke and Martinez, giving Pierce a three-run lead.

Maxwell found their way to home plate three times in the fifth inning but fell into unrecoverable pitching problems in the bottom of the fifth and throughout the sixth inning. Pierce claimed the win with a 11-3 final score in the bottom of the sixth.

Team placements were voided due to the weather conditions and games being canceled. ■
