Art Show at May Surprise

The Colusa County Arts Council will feature five local artists during May Surprise on Saturday, May 4.

Artists include Sally J. Paul who will display her oil paintings and jewelry; Mary Ann Nation, who will show her ocean scenes along with paintings of the Sutter Buttes; Brendan Farrell will display his original acrylic creations; Thomas Gentil will start to showcase his historic oil paintings of Colusa, inspired by the 11 historic sites in Colusa. He will begin with the old Colusa Grammar School; and Max Komissarchik will also be present with his acrylic paintings of cats and other subjects.

The art show will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM in the Senior Center on Parkhill Street.

“This is your chance to view and purchase some fantastic art work by some of our local artists,” said Sara Niles, Board Member of CCAC. “You will also have the opportunity to join the Colusa County Arts Council if you haven’t already done so for this year.”

If you would like to join the Colusa County Arts Council, the membership cost is $30 for an individual, $50 for a family membership, and $100 for sponsorship.

New to the Arts Council’s participation of May Surprise, there will be paintings ‘en plein air’ along Parkhill Street, and wine is permitted inside the Senior Center.

“You may admire the lovely paintings while sipping your wine from the Friends of the Library,” said Niles.

Other groups taking part in May Surprise are the Colusa County Garden Club which opens with a plant sale at the Pavilion at 9 AM. A lunch will be served inside the Senior Center by the Pacific Flyway Quilters starting at 11 AM. A wine tasting will begin at noon in the Senior Center Garden area by the Friends of the Colusa County Library and the Colusa City Heritage Preservation Committee will be presenting the Heritage Award at 2 PM. ■
