The Pierce Lady Bears descended to Live Oak last Thursday, claiming a victory by 10 runs and a 12-2 final score.
The Lady Bears opened up scoring in the first inning against the Lions with a triple by Abby Mendoza, scoring two runs, followed by a RBI by Sierra Murphy to a 3-0 Pierce lead.
Grace Alonso’s single on a ground ball to center field advanced Emily Ehrke across home plate in the top of the second. Muprhy’s second single of the game to center field advanced Alonso and Mendoza, giving the Lady Bears a 6-0 lead. Murphy held off the Lions in the pitching circle until the bottom of the third, when the Lions placed two runs on the board for a 6-2 Lady Bears lead.
Pierce went on to add three runs in the bottom of the third, scored by Charter, Ehrke and Stephens. The Lions were kept from adding to their score the remaining four innings, as Pierce claimed the win at the top of the seventh with a 12-2 victory. Murphy got the win for the Lady Bears, pitching all seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, and striking out two. Pierce totaled 12 hits with Ehrke, Stephens, and Mendoza managing multiple hits. Ehrke led Pierce with four hits in five at bats.
Pierce holds a 10-12 overall record and 2-4 in league play. Lady Bears host Winters tonight in a conference match-up at 4 PM. ■
