The Williams Lady Jackets were held scoreless against the East Nicolaus Spartans last Thursday at home, with a 16-0 final score.
Williams defense gave the Spartans a run for their money in the first inning last Friday, with a diving catch by Marlen Tirado who to execute the first out of the game. On the mound, Jovanna Hernandez struck out two batters, holding the Spartans to just a single run. The Lady Jackets struggled offensively in the bottom of the first, with strikeouts by the first three batters.
The Spartans picked up three runs in the second to grab an early 4-0 lead over Williams. A single hit by Noemi Tirado in the bottom of the second would be the only bat to make a connection for the inning. Plagued with problems on the mound, Williams walked seven batters over the net two innings, ultimately giving the game away and an East Nicolaus lead 10-0.
Williams bats finally warmed up in the top of third but the Spartan defense was too strong and the score deficit too big, as the Spartans went on to claim the win 16-0.
Williams sits on a 1-15 overall season record and 0-9 in league play. ■
