Colusa baseball grabs lead in sixth inning over Willows

Colusa RedHawks took a win last Thursday over the Willows Honkers with a final game score of 6-3. 

The RedHawks got things moving in the first inning, when Christian Lyss doubled on a 3-2 count, bringing in the first run of the game. Colusa ended the inning with a second run from a single line drive to center field by Leo Guzman for a RedHawk 2-0 lead. Willows was held scoreless by the RedHawks defense in the bottom of the first. 

Willows offense claimed their first run on an error by Colusa’s Cody Free and tied the game with a double line drive hit to RedHawks left fielder Clayton Angus for a 2-2 score. In the top of the fifth, Colusa’s Drew Bradbury doubled on a line drive to left field, bringing in three runs for the Redhawks, and ultimately clinching the win over the Honkers.

Lyss was the winning pitcher for Colusa, allowing four hits and three runs over seven innings, and striking out four. Blake Steidlmayer led Colusa with two hits in four at bats. Colusa’s regular season record stands at 22-7 and 6-2 in league play. ■
