Indivisible Colusa lobbies at State Capitol

On Wednesday, Indivisible Colusa’s Jennifer Roberts spent the day in Sacramento with leaders of Indivisible groups from across the state, as part of the first Indivisible California Lobby Day.

At the Capitol Building, the group formed teams and made the rounds of lawmakers’ offices.

Indivisible members from Colusa, Yolo, and Marin sat down with Assemblymember Marc Levine’s staff to ask for his yes vote on Assembly Bill 1217, which would require greater transparency around the funding sources of political ads.

Later that day, the bill passed in the Assembly.

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, whose district includes Williams and Arbuckle, is a co-sponsor of AB 1217.

Team Colusa, Yolo, and Marin also met with Aguiar-Curry’s staff to urge her to support ACA 6, a constitutional amendment that would restore voting rights to parolees.

“Our democracy is stronger when it is fair and inclusive,” Roberts said. “Stripping the right to vote from formerly incarcerated people is a form of voter suppression that is deeply out of step with our values.”

ACA 6 is expected to come up for a vote in the Legislature later this year. ■
