Home Obituaries Troy Leslie Thompson (1947-2019)

Troy Leslie Thompson (1947-2019)

Troy Leslie Thompson was born on July 22, 1947, in Willits, California.

On June 8, 2019, he lost his battle with Cancer and died peacefully in his home, with family at his side.

Troy started his 28 year teaching career at Williams High School in the Fall of 1970. In the beginning he was the entire Math and Science department; were he taught Algebra II, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. After 28 years in the classroom, and two generations of students, he spent ten years as a Technology Coordinator for Williams School District. In his role he wrote grants, increased Internet speed and enlarged Internet fixes on all classroom and computers, district wide as needed.

When Troy was not teaching and coaching basketball he was a member of the Williams Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. Later, as an exempt Fireman he spent five years as a commissioner on the Williams Fire Protection District Board. During that time he wrote grants to help purchase the current ladder truck and other fire equipment.
Troy served our Country in the National Guard during the 1970s and the 1980s.

When Troy was not volunteering for the Volunteer Fire Department he spent time with his family. He took his family on many camping trips. He liked to fly fish and rode his bicycle for miles and miles, year after year.

Troy is survived by Emma, his wife of 50 years; daughter, Catherine Gonzales, of Oklahoma; son, Troy Thompson Jr., of Williams; Five grandchildren of Woodland and Oklahoma. He is also survived by his mother, Lois Wilson of Santa Rosa; and two brothers, Lawrence and Kevin Thompson of Santa Rosa. He was preceded in death by his father.

Troy was a voracious reader on many different subjects. Education was very important to him so donations can be made to the Williams Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship Fund in Troy’s memory or to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at the Williams Fire Hall starting at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2019. ■
