Life, as I see it :  Reality…

We’ve had a house guest for the past few days. Our Grand-puppy Kyra is with us while her humans are away.

Like Tom and me, Kyra is a bit advanced in years. She’s 15 now (times 7 in dog years).

By my calculations that makes her equivalent to 105 years old.

Understandably, she doesn’t do much. She eats, she sleeps, and takes an occasional stroll around the backyard when necessary.

That’s as it should be. Like us, Kyra has earned her moments of rest and contentment.

It’s rhubarb season and as I kept seeing all of rhubarb recipes, I began to wish for some. That’s the beauty of a small town and good neighbors.

I put the word out that I’d like to buy some rhubarb. It wasn’t long before my neighbor Vickie called to say come on over and get some for free.

Her husband Joel even pulled it for me. Later I received a second offer as well.

Now I have several packages of rhubarb washed, diced, and frozen in Seal-a-Meal bags.

I love living in a real community.

When I was in Colusa County, it was a community. We shared and we enjoyed time together.

Later, when I married and moved to Lake County, it was quite different. I didn’t know anyone there. It didn’t take long to realize life would be different there.

We have a beautiful panoramic view at our Lake County house, but I’m far more content in our backyard patio or in a rocker on our front porch here in Beach, ND. That is the reality of it all.

We are surrounded by friends and family.

Whether it is a gift of rhubarb or going out for dinner where someone is bound to stop and join us, we are blessed to be here.

We are gradually taking the steps to establish ourselves as ND residents. It takes a lot of effort to uproot your life and move. Step by step, we’re getting it done.

Yesterday we went grocery shopping in Glendive, Montana. We got a few non-food items too. Regardless of what we bought, there was no sales tax in Montana. Gotta love that.

Today our church will install a new minister. After, we will have a potluck lunch. There’s nothing quite as good as a church potluck.

Later, we will attend a birthday barbecue supper for “adopted” daughter, Jodi.

It’s going to be a food-filled day. I suspect it’s time to hit the bricks and gear up the walking program.

I’m so thankful I can still do that.

Life is good today.
