The Colusa Police Department is investigating a burglary at Country Stop in Colusa that occurred over the Independence Day weekend.

Lt. Elden Tamaz said an individual entered the store on Fremont Street sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning and stole a large quantity of cigarettes before exiting.

“He broke the glass on the front door and entered that way,” Tamaz said.

This is the second time in about 18 months Country Stop was burglarized with cigarettes being the primary target. A few days before Christmas in 2017, a teenager entered the store by breaking the front door glass around midnight and made off with a large amount of cigarettes, which was caught by surveillance camera.

Tamaz said the suspect in Friday’s burglary was also caught on surveillance and detectives are working to make identification.

“The incident is still under investigation,” he said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Colusa Police Department at 458-7777.
