The family of Muriel Scofield is sad to announce that she passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Muriel was born in Arbuckle on Jan. 24, 1928. She graduated from Pierce High School in 1945, and married Byron Scofield in 1946. They lived in the Arbuckle area their entire lives.
Muriel’s passion was bridge, and she belonged to many bridge clubs. Her monthly calendar was filled with bridge days in which no other appointments would be scheduled. She enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy, and the San Francisco Giants.
She loved baking and always had cookies in the freezer. She was active in the Arbuckle Golf Club for many years and traveled to competitions with the Arbuckle team. She was an active member of the Arbuckle United Methodist Church. She celebrated her 90th birthday by zip lining in Hawaii.
Muriel is survived by her children: Cynthia Peterson (Gary), Daryl, Andrew, and Adrienne Morris (Mark); four grandsons, three great grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Byron; parents Harry and Evelyn Brooks; siblings Beverly Durst, Richard Brooks, and Judy Brooks.
Per her wishes, no services will be held. Private inurnment will be held at Mary’s Cemetery (12020 County Road 98, Woodland, CA) at a later date.
