Life, as I see it : Courage and strength…

I saw evidence of “true grit” this weekend. I’m proud to say I witnessed it among our own.
My son Val completed the 25-mile Maah Daah Hey bike race on the challenging trail near Medora, ND. His gal Sami completed the 13-mile race. They both finished strong.

These two push themselves to do the best they can, and then they push a little harder.

Val’s boys Vaughn and Kohen are learning from their dad. They each took first place in their age division races as well.

I appreciate that he is teaching the boys to live the best lives they can live.

Val is an experienced rider, but the sport is new to Sami. That’s where the true grit comes in. Although she said the prospect of riding in the race terrified her, she did it. I admire her courage.

Also close to home, Val’s best friend Chris took second place in the 13-mile race.

Congratulations to all of them.

When we went back to Medora later in the day for Vaughn and Kohen’s races, the riders who competed in the 100-mile race were coming over the finish line. I can’t even imagine doing that.

I’m admittedly not very athletic. I’m not sure where Val gets it. I was the kid that could never climb the rope in gym class.

I’ve always wished for rhythm, athletic ability, or musical talent. Atlas I have none of those things. But for every lack, God blesses us with another talent.

I’m blessed with writing skills and with cooking skills. I am grateful for each of those things.

We were pleased to get one of the city’s beautification awards for our yard. If I’m being honest, that one is all about Tom. He’s the one doing the hours of hard work out there. So, congratulations Tom and all of the other winners in Beach.

We continue to love small town life.

Life is good today.
