SEASON PREVIEW: RedHawks are rearing and ready

Exciting games are on the horizon for Colusa RedHawks as they brace themselves for a hard-hitting football season.

Coach Matthew Jessee anticipates going up against many tough teams, forcing the RedHawks to ready themselves and fight for the victory they are hungry for.
“Every week is going to be a slug fest,” said Jessee. “We’re going to have to bring it.”
With challenges every week, the team is not going to be caught off guard. The RedHawks have been working hard. Jessee will bring back last year’s power spread offense 4-4 defense which served them well last year.

Other teams need to look out for the RedHawks offensive line.

“They’re an aggressive group who work very well together,” Jessee said.

Jessee said that he is keenly aware that it’s all tough teams on the schedule, and while all the teams will present a challenge, he is confident that the RedHawks can compete with the other schools. “They’re all going to be good, competitive games, one way or another,” said Jessee.

The challenge will be that there will be no downtime for the team for an extended part of the year. The starters play the entire time, where typically younger players will get experience while the starters get rest.

Riley Stice will be the starter quarterback while Drew Bradbury has been working as the backup quarterback. Victor Hernandez is expected to be the powerhouse receiver.
Jessee said he has a good, hardworking core of students that are doing things right on the field and managing to maintain their grades.

“I just get everything done as soon as I get home; it doesn’t matter how late” said junior Adrian “Chicho” Perez, Jr., about keeping the delicate balance of keeping up with his responsibilities. “Effort, attitude, and accountability. Being ready to compete and get better every day.”

Picking up where they left off, the team will face Mt. Shasta, the team that the RedHawks beat in the playoffs last year. The homecoming game will be on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 PM. ■
