Recruiting all high school students! The Colusa County RCD is hosting a Speak-off Contest. If you are interested in getting public speaking experience, learning more about natural resources in our county, and making some extra cash, this event is for you! Created by the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD), this contest is open to all Colusa County students in the 9th – 12th grade levels.
This year’s speech topic is “Why do we need to act to save the monarch butterfly? What can RCDs do to help?”. Therefore, interested students may show off their talents by preparing a 3-5 minutes speech on the topic and compete in a county-wide competition Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Speakers will first perform the speech at the local level. The top speaker will advance to the regional contest. The top regional speaker will advance to the State contest. Cash prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the local Colusa County contest. First place wins $100, second place wins $60, and third place wins $40.
Colusa County students must return a Speak-Off Contest Application to the Colusa County RCD office by September 27th and the competition will be held on October 2nd, 2019 at 5 PM at the Colusa Industrial Properties Conference Room at 100 Sunrise Blvd, Colusa, CA.
Continuing competitors will speak at the Sacramento Valley Region of RCDs fall meeting (mid-October 2019), and finally, if selected at the regional level, the speaker will have the opportunity to represent their school, RCD, and county at the CARCD annual meeting held in Redding (November 2019).
