A vigorous season has shown for the Lady RedHawks as they flexed their muscles to dominate Thursday’s home game against Live Oak, winning 3-0.
The first set was 25-12, the second 25-5, and the third 25-18. The mismatched experience level couldn’t have come at a better time for the RedHawks. Several players were injured, and that allowed for several players to get more experience on the floor.
Colusa senior, Amber Morales, was filling in for Cynthia Velasquez as libero. Morales said that her strategy was to look at the opposing team as a whole.
“If they’re standing on the left side, I try to serve on the line,” said Morales. “If they’re really far back, I hit short, then they have to move their feet. And they’re too far up; I look for the holes.” Another tactic, Morales said, was to pay attention to each player as they serve.
“Once everyone has served, you can see their weakest, and you try to serve towards them,” Morales added.
At that game, the RedHawks helped coach Tina Lyons celebrate her birthday, adorning her with a princess crown and a birthday girl sash.
Lyons said that she was going to finish off her evening by going to another volleyball game.
The RedHawks traveled to the Padre Invitational at Carmel High School, on Saturday, and reported three out of five wins. Next week, they will have a challenge as they face off against Willows on Tuesday at a home game. The Honkers varsity team is 5-0 in league games. ■
