The Williams varsity football team claimed their first league victory last Friday with a huge win over the visiting Trinity Wolves, with a 26-6 final score.
The Yellowjackets offense came out explosive in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns against the Trinity offense for a 14-0 lead.
Williams kept their momentum and generated a running game, allowing a balanced defense. Forward progress on downs kept Williams in the lead, scoring another touchdowns in the second half, plus two field goals.
The Yellowjackets held the Wolves to just a single touchdown, taking a much needed win, 26-6.
On offense, Mo Hernandez completed 14 of 21 passes for a total of 264-yards. Aldo Ambriz scored two of the Jackets’ touchdowns with 202 receiving yards, and Jerry Velazquez accumulated six points in field goals.
For the defense, Alan Martinez and Jesus Jaurequi put forth six tackles on the win.
Williams’ defense sacked Trinity’s quarterback four times in the game, with two by Angel Juarez.
“We played better defensively,” said Head Coach Jeff Lemus. “We were able to cause turnovers and rush the passer this game. East Nic is going to be a tough game Friday. We’re going to try and stay balanced on offense and take some pressure off our defense.”
Williams, 4-4, has a home conference match-up against East Nicolaus, 7-1, Friday with a 7:30 PM start time. ■
