The Williams varsity 2019 volleyball season ended last Thursday on the Lady Yellowjackets’ home court against the Durham Trojans.
Desperately looking for a single league win, the Lady Jackets came out strong in the first set with key defensive plays by Jackie Rivera and Estafania Bermudez. Williams grabbed the set win with a 25-23 score.
Durham, looking to win at least half of their league contest matches, fought back with a dominant force in the second and third sets. The Trojans grabbed back-to-back wins with final scores of 25-12 and 25-16.
A change in court positions for Williams in the fourth set proved to be valuable. The Yellowjackets led the majority of the set with keys plays by Krystal Garcia and Bermudez.
Nail biting rallies ensued as each team clawed their way towards the 25-point win score, but Williams’ defense wore thin in the final plays. Durham grabbed a 3-1 set win with a final score of 25-23
“We were so close,” said Head Coach Kristi Hill. “Too many little mistakes and not enough time to regain the lead for a win. The seniors did a fantastic job on the court in the first set and really rallied back in the fourth.”
Williams closed out their 2019 season with a 3-22 overall record. ■
